The Ould Linen

1873, The Ould Linen.

From a seed as pure as when nature first selected it, comes 1873 – The Ould Linen, a quality of yarn made the way it used to be back in time with that purity and devotion that make it so special.

In selection and processing we wanted to retrieve the tradition of those who cultivated linen in Normandy for generations: no chemicals added to the plants and keeping the fibre far from any stress or external alteration. We design and build our own spinning frames, which we have adapted to take them back in time, so as to spin the yarns just as it once used to be done at Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale.

This linen retains all its valuable properties in its fibres, which translate into an agreeable touch and softness on the skin, as well as visibly preserving its regularity of texture.

Like many age-old products, it respects human nature and the environment. With our 1873 you can dream with us of a better future to stand on the shoulders of our long-lasting skills. You can create shirts, jackets, tablecloths and sheets like those that you still find in all their beauty in family wardrobes.

The 1873 Ould Linen yarn has been awarded the gold level of the C2C Certified Material Health Certificate™, a distinction provided by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII).
This certification is a testament to the product’s adherence to high standards of material health, emphasizing the use of safe and environmentally responsible materials in its production. The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a circular economy through innovations that have a positive impact on people and the environment.

The production of the 1873-The Ould Linen yarn was made possible by adapting modern spinning machines to replicate the slow and fascinating craftsmanship of ancient times.
This yarn is part of Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable production practices.
The company sources over 90% of its raw materials from the agricultural cooperative Terre de Lin in Normandy, known for producing the highest quality flax fiber in the world.

The yarn is certified by MASTERS OF LINEN®, guaranteeing that it is a wholly natural textile product, cultivated and processed entirely in Western Europe, and meets high standards of resistance, color fastness, dimensional stability, and transparency of chemical composition

Furthermore, the European Flax certification ensures the traceability of premium flax fiber grown in Western Europe, highlighting the fiber’s natural sustainability, cultivation without irrigation, and GMO-free status. Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale’s ongoing commitment to sustainability is reflected in its prestigious certifications, which attest to the high quality and sustainability of its yarns. Sustainability, traced: the digital passport

In 2022 together with Terre de Lin, Linificio has created a digital passport for 1873- The Ould Linen.

Therefore, it has started tracing it from field to yarn using the blockchain technology.

Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology that provides an immutable decentralized digital record comprising a chain of blocks of transactions that is shared among a distributed network of participants.

It can record the time and locations of supply chain processes, operations, and transactions.

Now, Linificio is tracing the supply chain from the seed to yarn. This technology allows to easily integrate also all the other processes along the supply chain up to the final product.
