LINIFICIO

The bond between Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale and contemporary art continues in the 2024-2025 biennium with the support of the “Thinking Like a Mountain” project, promoted by
GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo.

This choice is in continuity with the DE FILO project, the exhibition of textile and contemporary art set up in 2023, a true journey of enhancement of the cultural and productive heritage linked to the linen and hemp supply chain. DEFILO allowed to combine the knowledge and rediscovery of these precious natural fibers, with artists, culture, society, economy and environment.

The widespread cultural program conceived by GAMeC, which explores the relationship between man and nature, with a particular focus on the mountain as a symbol of resilience and source of inspiration, also deals with culture and territory.

The expression “thinking like a mountain” was coined by the ecologist Aldo Leopold and in the context of the GAMeC project, it aims to adopt a point of view to foster a fascination for the Earth and an evolved and participatory environmental sensitivity.

Exhibitions, events and educational initiatives to invite the public to reflect on themes such as sustainability, environmental protection and the value of connection with the territory.

Over two years, it involves the participation of twenty artists or groups of artists operating in different geographical and cultural contexts in the design and realization of events shared with local communities, including interventions in public spaces, collective performances and creative workshops.

The first featured artists are Sonia Boyce, Lin May Saeed, Studio Ossidiana in collaboration with Frantoio Sociale, Chiara Gambirasio and Mercedes Azpilicueta, engaged in Bergamo, Dalmine, Brembate and Castione della Presolana.

Linificio fully shares the objectives of the project and is committed to supporting its realization with active participation in 2025. The company, characterized by an approach attentive to the environment and local communities, believes that the dialogue between art, nature and sustainability is fundamental to promote positive change.

“We are excited to be part of this important project that allows us to join forces to raise public awareness on crucial issues such as environmental protection and the value of connection with nature,” said Pierluigi Fusco Girard, CEO of Linificio.

“We believe that art and culture can play a key role in promoting a more harmonious and respectful vision of our planet.”
