SIZE4MI

Advanced Manufacturing Systems for Made in Italy

SIZE4MI is a research and industrial development project dedicated to the modernization and sustainability of the Italian textile supply chain, with a particular focus on natural fibers such as linen and cotton.

Co-financed by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) within the framework of the Innovation Agreements, the project is coordinated by Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale together with Marzotto Lab, Centro Tessile Cotoniero e Abbigliamento (Centrocot), University of Florence and GFM Net.

A new paradigm for Italian textiles

SIZE4MI aims to develop advanced manufacturing systems for Made in Italy, combining digital technologies, artificial intelligence, sensing and robotics to improve the efficiency, traceability, and environmental sustainability of textile processes.

The project focuses on five main directions:

  • building a fully traceable and certifiable national linen supply chain, from field to finished product
  • introducing intelligent robotics to automate delicate processes such as spinning
  • applying artificial intelligence and data analysis for quality control, reduction of energy and water consumption, and predictive management of production
  • experimenting with new low environmental impact dyeing and finishing systems
  • developing tools for sustainability assessment (lca) and the biodegradability of textile products

Innovation and sustainability for the future of linen

The project, ending on October 2, 2026, represents one of the most advanced initiatives in Europe for the digitization and sustainability of Italian natural textiles.

Research and experimentation activities are currently underway and final results, including the first prototypes and quantitative evidence of productive and environmental improvements, will be presented at the conclusion of the project.

Through SIZE4MI, Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale confirms its commitment to connecting innovation and tradition, promoting a textile supply chain that combines technology, traceability, and respect for natural materials.
